Parumala used to be the seat of Pulikkottil Joseph Mar Dionasius, the Malankara Metropolitan, in southern Travancore. Because of his many preoccupations, he could not stay continuously at Parumala. Therefore Mar Gregorios, who was in charge of Niranam Diocese stayed at Parumala and looked after the church. This is the context in which Mar Gregorios came to be known as “PARUMALA KOCHU THIRUMENI”.

There was a temporary church, named after St. Peter and St. Paul, at Parumala which was owned by “Shri Arikupurathu Mathen”. Besides Arikupurathu Mathen, 22 families were also there as parishners. (The sponsor of this web site is the Great Grand Son of Shri Kurumpeswarathu Mathen, who was the First Parishner  after Shri Arukupurathu Mathen.). Since there was acute shortage of Priests in Malankara ,Mar Gregorios decided to start Seminary at Parumala, on the land, which was given by Shri Arikupurathu Mathen. Since the Parumala Church was temporary in nature, Thirumeni also decided to reconstruct the same.
