The Patriarch who came to know about the life, devotion and scholarship of Ramban Geevarghese, accepted him as his translator and Secretary. So the Ramban had to temporarily suspend his stay at Vettikal Dayara and  accompany the Patriarch on his visit to various churches.

The Patriarch was well placed with Ramban Geevarghese and decided to consecrate him as a Metropolitan. On 10th Dec.1876, Peter III consecrated two Metropolitans at North Paravoor Church, of which one was Geevarghese Ramban. Because of his love for Geevarghese Ramban, he gave the new Metropolitan the title ‘Gregorios’, which is the title of the Metropolitan of Jerusalem. Mar Gregorios was appointed to the Diocese of Niranam, the Cathedral church of which is Niranam Valiapally, Founded by St. Thomas. The same year the Patriarch consecrated four more new Metropolitans. The 29 year old Mar Gregorios was the youngest among them all and was lovingly called by everyone as “KOCHU THIRUMENI”.
