It aggravated and took a bad turn due to the severity of his fasting and abstinence, and the result was severe pain. Thirumeni had foreknowledge of his death and told about it to those around him.

Death Bed of Saint Gregorios Parumala

The news of Parumala Thirumeni’s illness spread like wild fire.People in great crowd used to visit him irrespective of caste, creed or religion. Thirumeni’s body was slowly becoming weak and numb. Thirumeni called Fr.Geevarghese Vattasseril to his side entrusted him the crosier and other insignia and the keys. After this Thirumeni was lying still and silent for three days. On the third day, Thirumeni asked what date was it. When he was told that the date was 18th (Malayalam era), Thirumeni said: “O My Lord, I must suffer this pain for two more days”. This showed that Thirumeni knew that his end would come on the 20th. On the 20th afternoon, His Grace Murimattathu Mar Evanios Metropolitan had performed the “Kantheela Shishrusha” and Thirumeni received the Holy Qurbana. Thirumeni prepared for his death. Many Priests and others were sitting around Thirumeni and offering last prayers. At midnight a bright light was seen and Thirumeni murmured “My God” as the Soul was returning to Eternal Father.

The bell of the Parumala Church sang the wailing tune and carried message across River Pampa to the people of the country.
