It was the standing desire of Mar Gregorios to visit the Holy Land
during the Passion (Holy) week. The financial commitment was rather high.
All the Metropolitans extended their helping hand to Kochu Thirumeni in
this. Within three months Rs.5000/- was collected from various Parishes
in Malankara.

Parumala Kochu Thirumeni was the first Metropolitan from Malakara to
visit the Holy Land.
The day following the consecration of Parumala church, Kochu Thirumeni,
started journey for the Holy Land. On reaching Jerusalem a large group
of Syrian Christians greeted the pilgrims and took them to St. Mark’s Convent
(Dayara). There they were received by Mar Gregorios of Jerusalem. On their
return to Malankara they were given a grand reception. Kochu Thirumeni
returned from the pilgrimage of the Holy Land contended, that one of the
cherished dreams of his life had been fulfilled. Thirumeni collected money
from Parishes in Malankara and constructed a big silver Procession Cross
and sent it to the Holy Sepulchre of our Lord, as an offering. After the
visit to Holy Land, Thirumeni wrote “Oorsalem Yatra Vivaranam”(Jerusalem
Travel Experience) which was the first printed travelogue in Malayalam.
