He had two brothers and two sisters. The members of his family lovingly called the young child “Kochaipora”. His mother died when he was about two years old, after which he grew up under the loving care of his elder sister Mariam. His education was started at the age of five. “Onakkavil Ayya” was his 1st (Asan) teacher. Mamootil Mani Asan also taught him.
